Presbyterian Church in Victoria Donates to Orphans

Presbyterian Church in Victoria, Australia, recently donated assorted items to 15 orphans at Nthandizi Orphan Care centre in Ntcheu.

The items were clothing material meant for school uniforms, beddings and money for school fees. The group of orphans comprised 9 girls and 6 boys from two secondary schools in Ntcheu.

Of the 15 orphans, only three were Presbyterian while others were drawn from Roman catholic, Anglican, Pentecostal churches and Seventh day Adventist.

The function drew together guardians of the orphans, the Presbytery Clerk and the Moderator of Ntcheu Presbytery, Traditional Authorities and Presbyterian Church elders. It was graced by the vice moderator of Blantyre Synod.

The Presbyterian Church in Victoria presented the donation to the orphans through the Church of central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Blantyre Synod HIV/Aids department.

Speaking during the function on the sidelines with media personalities, Blantyre Synod vice Moderator Rev. Rodney Bona said incorporation of many orphans from different partners in the ministry of word and sacrament is an indication of commitment by the synod.

“It is a commitment of service to the vulnerable children without regard to religious, racial or any other affiliation. We as Blantyre Synod would like to serve the less fortunate as children of God in general without looking at where they come from since this problem is for all of us,” Rev. Bona said.

He asked guardians to the orphans to take care of the orphans and desist from marrying the girls off at a tender age; a case which he said puts the future of such girls in jeopardy.

Rev. Bona asked the young people receiving the help to work hard in class to become constructive citizens to their communities and the nation at large.

The function was facilitated by the Health and HIV/Aids Coordinator Rington Taibu, who asked the guardians not to take away the donated items from items, saying doing so is magnifying the plight of the vulnerable children.
