Financial and material constraints have still proved to be a problem to the Evangelism Department’s operations.  However tabled here are some of the achievements we have made in 2006.

Objectives

  1. The aim of Evangelism and Mission is to present the claims of the gospel of Christ, thus leading mankind to repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
  2. To be Christ’s faithful evangelists by going into the world making disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the father, son and Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that God has commanded.
  3. To demonstrate by love for one another and by the quality of common life, the new reality of life in Christ through worship, fellowshipping and practicing a deepened life of prayer and service in order the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
  4. To Minister to the needs of the poor, sick lovely and powerless.

Achievements

The department has managed to realize the goals it planned to achieve in the year 2006, despite resource constraints. For details, a summary of achieved activities is as follows:

Marriage Seminar

We had a marriage seminar at Mawila Church in March 2006.  And about 50 families attended the seminar.  We had two facilitators from Blantyre City Presbytery, a man and a woman from Kachere and Likhubula CCAP Churches respectively.

Revival Meetings

We were invited by Mawila Kirk Session to go and facilitate the meeting. It was during Easter holidays.  We had a team of preachers and a band from Blantyre City Presbytery.  We started on Good Friday up to Easter Sunday.

Ntcheu Presbytery

This revival meeting was organised by Ntcheu Presbytery helped by Blantyre Synod Evangelism Department from Friday to Sunday.  We identified four arrears of operation Ntcheu (a) Boma, (b) Mphepo Zinai (c) Shape Valley and (d) Kasenjere near Zalewa Highway Road.

All preachers were from Evangelism Department and a Band from Kachere CCAP.  The Theme of the meetings was “Yesu ndi Wamoyo” (Jesus is Alive)

Chingale Presbytery

It was organised by the Presbytery and invited Evangelism Department to go and facilitate the meeting.  Ntcheu revival meeting was fully funded by Synod Office while Mawila and Chingale transport a vehicle and allowances were from the Synod Office.

Training of Trainers

We has two trainings in Blantyre North Presbytery, one at Lunzu CCAP, trained leaders about evangelism, counselling, prayer and stewardship.  And the other training at Chilangoma church, taught the same topics as stated above.

Furthermore we sent two facilitators to Mulanje Presbytery ate St Andrews CCAP to train the leaders about Evangelism, Prayer, Counselling and Stewardship.

We failed to do the same training in most of four zones of our Presbyteries; this was due to Stewardship Campaign, which started in June 2006 to September 2006.  We shall try to fulfil our promise this coming year 2007.

Night of Prayer

We encourage the Presbyteries and Congregations to conduct the Night of Prayer. And fellow the guideline sheet from Blantyre Synod Evangelism Department. And most of our Congregations are trying to conduct the Night of Prayers, especially if there is need to do so, during paper Sunday, thank giving etc.  And we encourage all the Congregations to fallow the Presbyteries a way and system of worship.

Gospel Material Production

As a Department we have managed to produce the following materials “Uthenga Wabwino” (Evangelism) written by Mr. Phale from Kachere CCAP and Stewardship materials written by Rev. R. Mangitsa. (Zopereka ndi Chiyani? Chachikhumi). That is about Christian giving.

Stewardship Campaign

We spent most of our time in Stewardship Campaign in 2006.  We started in June to September 2006.  We managed to go and visit twelve presbyteries out of sixteen.  We failed to reach four Presbyteries because of pressure of work and financial problems from Synods office due to Administrative meetings which were supposed to be conducted the same period.

We have planned to visit the remaining presbyteries this coming year 2007.  It was a blessing to the Presbyteries and Congregations that were visited.  We targeted the congregations which had high targets and we visited nine or eight congregations in each presbytery.

We had about sixteen volunteering facilitators from Blantyre City Presbytery, Elders men and preaching, were trained by the former Synod Evangelism Coordinator Rev. R. Mangitsa on stewardship, given materials as tools in their hands, ready for teaching.  We emphasized on tithing and free gifts.

The Evangelism Department is thanking all the Synod officials for paying attention to our requests.  All the Presbyteries and Coordinators worked for your prayers and material support.
